A NEW Heart of Ulverston Award category has been launched this year to celebrate those in the town who are making positive changes to support the environment.
The prestigious community awards were re-launched last year by PR firm 32West – an agency founded in Ulverston – to ensure the incredible efforts of its residents, groups and businesses to strengthen the town’s well-known community spirit are fully recognised.
Now, a new category has been introduced for 2025 – Environment and Sustainability – to hear the stories of the people who are taking positive action to protect the environment or improve sustainability.
Nominations could include someone who regularly litter picks or undertakes community planting, or an individual who helps or influences others to make eco-friendly choices.
Businesses that are reducing waste, cutting carbon emissions or championing sustainable initiatives to lessen the impact on the planet in the longer term would also be perfect nominees.
Dennis Round of Siemens Energy, a Heart of Ulverston Awards headline sponsor and sponsor of the Environment and Sustainability award, said: “This award is very important to us as a business and we are delighted that it has been launched to welcome and celebrate the positive changes people are making to help the town become more sustainable overall.
“Ulverston is a town with a genuine sense of place and community, fuelled by the wonderful mix of people, organisations and businesses here. We know people are doing wonderful things to protect the environment for the future and we feel this should be highlighted.
“If you know someone who has made a positive change – perhaps a friend or neighbour, or a business – please nominate them to ensure their efforts can be recognised.”

Nominations are already pouring in to highlight the exceptional efforts of individuals, teams and local firms in the community. The list of categories is:
Lifetime Achievement
Sports Performance of the Year
Employee of the Year
Teacher of the Year
Sports Volunteer of the Year
Community Group of the Year
Environment and Sustainability Award
Outstanding Courage Award
Best Hospitality Venue
Business in the Community
Citizen of the Year
Helping Hand Award
Apprentice of the Year
Nominations are made via the Heart of Ulverston website: www.heartofulverston.co.uk
Those received before March 14 will be considered by a steering committee made up of representatives from across the community. The shortlist will be created based on how closely each nomination matches the category criteria.
The finalists in each category will be invited to attend a grand, black-tie awards evening and gala dinner at Ulverston’s Coronation Hall in May, thanks to Heart of Ulverston Awards headline sponsors Ulverston BID, Siemens Energy and Bender UK.
A limited number of category sponsorships are available. Anyone interested should email info@32West.co.uk to find out more.
